An Assessment of Progress

These were my New Year's Resolutions:

General
Don’t waste my days
Relaxing is fine, wasting is not.
Get back to New Orleans
My favorite place in the world, so why am I not there more often?

Financial
Get promoted
And truly deserve it. No sleeping with the boss(es) to get this one…
Buy a computer
With editing software. Next, take over the world!
Fix my car up nice
Cause it needs it. Bad.
Save at least 3,500 dollars
Oh where, oh where have my life savings gone?

Physical
Try new sports (and play MORE racquetball)
Gonna join a kickball league in March, dominate the racquetball court, and maybe take up basketball again.
Remember to take my vitamins
Exercise at least 3 times a week
I want to be able to run! . . . More than a block.
High fruit and vegetable intake
Because they’re good… and good for you!
Flat tummy, bigger butt, better wardrobe
Just a general summation of how I want to improve my looks in ’08.

Intellectual
Record my life more carefully
Books I read, movies I watch, random hilarious or thought provoking events. I love reading about it later.
Read 30 books (keep a list)
Français? Oui, s’il vous plait.
Parce que je voudrais apprendre plus français.
Learn to use a DV camera
This is, in the immediate future, to help me get promoted. In the distant future? Camerawoman on Ice Road Truckers, or the like.
Explore creativity more (guitar, drawing, writing)

Interpersonal
Keep in touch with friends, make new
Call my family more
My grandmothers are old. Every few weeks, my immediate family wonders whether I’m still alive.

This is how I've done so far:

Generally, I have been about 50/50 on wasting my days and I have not gotten back to New Orleans, yet. There are no plans in the works for me to do so.

Financially, I have not gotten a promoted, bought a computer (did buy a snowboard), fixed my car, or saved 3,500 dollars. I've saved 300. Maybe. And with plans to spend it frivolously ni the near future.

Physically, I missed the deadline for kickball, have not bought raquetball equipment, and found out that I now suck at basketball. I have forgotten to take my vitamins 99% of the time and, though I was very well behaved for about six weeks, recently I have not been eating many fruits or vegetables or working out. My stomach is still flabby, my butt is still tiny. Small success: I have been dressing better.

Intellectually, I have not been blogging diligently, nor keeping track of movies, books, and events. I am working towards my goal of thirty books, but have not been keeping a list (makes it kind of hard to know if I accomplish my goal). I have no expanded my French, learned to use a DV camera or really explored my creativity at all.

Personally, I have not spoken to my Grandmothers in months. I just recently saw my mother and father, though.

In a nutshell: I am SUCKING at keeping my resolutions.

Well, that certainly is quite the list of resolutions. I wouldn't expect most people to have even 1/4 of that done by now. It'd probably be easier if you pared it down to a few goals to accomplish at a time. Get the quick goals out the way first (you'll feel productive!) and then work on the long-term stuff. It all seems like reasonable stuff, it just might take some time.

Good luck with it all! I'll check in to offer more motivational speechifying from time to time.
